Monthly Recap – November and December, 2020
A recap of my adventures in the months of November and December 2020
And just like that, 2020 was over. Not that 2021 will be any better neccessarily, but it was nice to close the door on what was to become a stressful and sad year for many. I had very few adventures in the last two months, there was too many things going on, like going for and getting a new job, which meant I had to write a CV and go for an interview after a twelve year break. This then meant moving locations and saying lots of goodbyes.
My father passed away after a brief and sudden cancer battle, which threw out the whole month of December and left the family devastated. Then just as the holidays started, Covid reared it’s ugly head again and I found myself living in the middle of a ‘hot spot’ and was locked down for three weeks. I was so emotionally and physically exhausted by that point that I was happy just to curl up at home and lick my wounds. We had some rainy weather which went with my mood and lockdown. Unfortunately it meant I could not see some of my family for Christmas and New Year, which was hard. Here are a few little events and locations that occuured in those very busy, sad months.
MARITIME MUSEUM, SYDNEY
After three terms of not being allowed to leave your school, we were finally able to take our students on an excursion, in my day job as a teacher. It was just so good to get on a bus and go somewhere! We took 100 students to the Maritime Museum for a Covid friendly day trip. We got to explore the HMS Endeavour replica and the HMS Vampire warship and had a brief wander around the museum’s exhibits. We were blessed with great weather and enthusiastic guides. A great day!
TURIMETTA BEACH
In November I did a brief walk around Turimetta headland and then headed down to the beach for a swim. It was busy for a small unknown beach, with an afternoon wedding and families coming down for Santa photos.
PENRITH GOLF CLUB
The Penrith Golf Club clubhouse has recently been renovated and we had dinner to check out the new menu and verandah. It was very peaceful watching the sunset over the fairway, and the menu was impressive. It was a Monday night so it wasn’t very busy, I imagine a weekend would be crowded and noisy, but a great location for a family meal.
NORTH NARRABEEN SWIMS
After a hot day at work packing and moving classrooms, I headed for an evening swim at North Narrabeen Pool. The water was starting to warm up and it was just the thing after a sweaty day. Lucky I grabbed a swim too, as the next day we went in to lockdown and they closed the ocean pools for a week.
WINNERERREMY BAY WALK
After a wet, lockdowned Christmas I finally had the energy and incentive to go for walks again. I headed to the bottom of Pittwater and tried out a new path around Winnererremy Bay and the dog park. I finished with a lap around the park and past the Flying Fox Cafe, which was only selling takeawy due to lockdown restrictions. With a great playground and lovely walking tracks, I would like to come back to this cafe for lunch. I also think it would be a great spot for a picnic!
So we say farewell to 2020! A tough year for those who planned to travel overseas, and even interstate. I was lucky to have a few weekend trips away here and there. I would like to think I will be heading overseas in 2021, but realistically I can’t see that happening. If I got to go anywhere it would be to New Zealand. There are a few Australian based trips I would like to take but we will have to wait and see, with borders between states still closed.
